    In the Future is the second album by Black Mountain, which was released January 21, 2008. It follows their eponymous debut album which was released in 2005. A "limited edition" of the album was released on the same day with 3 bonus tracks on a second disc. It debuted on the UK Album Chart at #72. The album art was designed by keyboardist Jeremy Schmidt, who was influenced by Storm Thorgerson's work. The album was a nominee for the 2008 Polaris Music Prize. Franz Nicolay, of The Hold Steady, listed the album as one of his favourite releases in 2008. "Stay Free" was used in the second season of Showtime's Californication on the episode "Going Down and Out in Beverly Hills". Read more on Last.fm.

    Black Mountain is a Canadian rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia. The band is composed of Stephen McBean, Amber Webber, Matt Camirand, Jeremy Schmidt and Joshua Wells. Since forming in 2004, Black Mountain has released three LPs, Black Mountain (2005), In the Future (2008), and Wilderness Heart (2010), and two EPs, Druganaut (2004) and Bastards of Light (2008) on the Jagjaguwar label. A split single with Destroyer was released in Fall 2004 on Spirit of Orr Records. The "Stormy High" single was released in 2006 on Suicide Squeeze Records. A vinyl single was released in April 2007 named "Surrender Sound Session: Unkle vs. Autolux/Black Mountain" with a remix of "No Hits" on the B side. Their self-titled album was chosen as one of Amazon.com's Top 100 Editor's Picks of 2005.
