The first of the Unthanks' Diversions albums (at least three) is a full live concert performance. And as the subtitle says, it's a selection of songs by Robert Wyatt or Antony & The Johnsons. One of these, 'Sea Song', was already known to Unthank followers from appearing on 'The Bairns' (recorded under the old Rachel Unthank & the Winterset moniker) is recognisably similar here. The rest are first recorded by this group for this album, and are adapted fairly thoroughly into its remarkable idiom. Diversions 2 and 3 are not very closely connected albums, one collaborating with one of northern England's finest brass bands, and the other exploring a longstanding interest in the shipbuilding industry through the songs to emerge from it.
