They debuted somewhere in 1995, and instantly became one of the most popular bands of the belgian-dutch lofi wave of that time. In a press release they were stated as being ' one of the most promising indiepopbands in holland' . Core of the band is Waldemar Noë, a veteran in the Amsterdam-scene. When Wim Elzinga suggested Waldemar to record some tracks at his place, Bingo trappers were born. In less then a year, they released the tape 'More Soul' on the infamous Shrimper label. Critics claim it to be one of the best releases on this label. Waldemar on the first Bingo Trappers show: "It was at a childrens party. It was somewhere out of town in a kind of barn. And we played covers of Bob Dylan, Hank Williams, and it was all very chaotic, I think". Actually, the chaotic-country element is an important element in the Bingo Trappers' sound during the first five years. By the time their first LP, 'Sierra Nevada' came out, somewhere in 1997, they had appeared on tons of compilations and released some more tapes. It wasn't untill january 2001, that the band released their first CD-only release, 'Juanita Ave.' on Animal World Recordings. To much critical acclaim: Juanita Ave. was even mentioned in the Rolling Stone COOL-issue. A few months later this was followed by a split tape in the soup versus potatoe series on Morc. Other band is Las Moscas from Japan. Both releases fit perfectly in the high standards the Bingo's set with their Shrimper-debut. Shortly after this release, Wim and Waldemar hit the road in the USA; they got to play with some various guest musicians then, including Will Simmons and members form Lambchop. When back in Holland, the band transformed into a five-piece, including Freek Musbach on guitar and turntables, Jan Schenk from Norma Jean) on bass, and Marc van der Holst (who also draws the comic spekkie big) on drums, and off course Waldemar and Wim. The only recording released as this five-piece is the track 'Intended Youth', which appeared on a split 7 with Mongrell, Pernath and Wio. This is a very limited release. In 2002, Wim Elzinga left the Bingo Trappers, and started working with Wally Tax, founder of the legendary dutch beatband The Outsiders. So, again the line-up was heavily changed. Currently, the Bingo's are Waldemar Noë on guitar and vocals, Esther Eij on bassguitar, Leen den Braber drums, and on stage, keyboardplayer Dick Brouwers (bassplayer of Darryl-Ann) often joins them. In this line-up, the band performed at the 2002 CMJ festival in New York, and did around Easter '03 a couple of shows with Songs:ohia. These shows were very well received; they sound more like a full grown band, yet there are still these typical, skillful Bingo Trappers songwriting elements. Also, a new albumwas recorded by Henk Jonkers, (who played guitar, bass and drums in the band for a while too). This album, entitled 'No Smoking' was released january 2004 on the Dutch label Muze records. Elzinga en Noë joined up again in '06. First as an acoustic folkduo called 'Sisters on the Highway'. After this short adventure they landed safely in the old Bingo Trappers womb, now with Sander Patelski (ex-Gluemen) on drums. So, a brand new line-up again, that started to rehearse a dozen of new songs that were recorded at Wim's attic in the Vrolikstraat as 'Nine Songs from the Handsome Pouch'.
