Salvatore was conceived one late night in the Brugata Collective, Oslo, spring 1998. Some of them were sitting and listening, and cheering to Neu! Suddenly they got the idea of creating a band based on the Neu groove. Indeed they did, and after a while they tried some other grooves as well… Having practised for just a month Salvatore did their first live performance, supporting Ola's other band, The White Birch. The feedback from the audience was great. Shortly after they participated in a talent competition. They "won" a tour of England and Scotland together with Ricochettes and Fab Foursome. During the winter 98/99 they did the first recordings on ADAT, and this was to become most of the material on their first album, Clingfilm (RJ005). In the easter of 2000 we started a cooperation with a theater group named De Utvalgte ('The Chosen Ones'). De Utvalgte was planning a piece on The Picture Of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, and they wanted Salvatore to make music for the play. Then it was decided to go to Morrocco to develop the piece further. Salvatore went with them, and in Marrakech they recorded the 'soundtrack'. This was to become the album Jugend - A New Hedonism (RJ007). Salvatore also recorded stuff that did not fit into the mood of Dorian, which resultet in the album Fresh (RJ010). Fresh was re-released in 2003 by American label Rocket Racer with additional remixes. Then they went to Chicago to record their fourth album, Tempo (RJ016) with producer John McEntire (Tortoise, Stereolab). This album gave them a Norwegian Grammy award (Spellemannsprisen) for best electronica(!)-album in 2003. Read more on Last.fm.
