There are at least two bands with the name Yuko: 1. Electro folk band from Ukraine. 2. Post rock / indietronics from Belgium 1. Yuko is an electro folk band from Ukraine. 2. Yuko is a post rock / indietronic band from Belgium. Their line-up was: Kristof Deneijs (vocals, guitar), Thomas Mortier (bass guitar), David Broeders (drums), Brecht Plasschaert (keys) and Koen De Gendt (guitar) Yuko’s debut record, For Times when Ears are Sore, was released in 2008 on debonair recordings and was highly praised by both critics in Belgium and abroad. The press was calling it ‘a beautiful autumnal album full of introvert songs’ and praising its ‘magical melancholy’ and ‘childlike innocence: naïve but never stupid, charming but never banal’. After the successful release of the first album they quickly established a matching reputation as a live band both in Benelux and abroad. Its concerts at Eurosonic, Pukkelpop, Crossing Border and Spot Festival (DK) did not go unnoticed, nor did Yuko’s support acts for M83, Under Byen, Ladytron and Jason Lytle (Grandaddy). They played major venues in Benelux (AB, Botanique, Melkweg, 013 etc…). As If We Were Dancing was more pop-oriented and had a more catchy sound than its predecessor. It was released on April 11th 2011 and was presented to the audience at release shows in STUK (Leuven) and VOORUIT (Gent). On 7th April the album Long Sleeves Cause Accidents was released. On 1st September 2016 a film soundtrack album Cher Ami for the animation film with the same title was released. Three animators created an animation about the true stories of some remarkable animals that fought in Belgium during the first world war. After 100 years of being forgotten they give suitable recognition to the brave creatures together with production company De Commerce. In October 2018 the album Ten Years Of Staring Back was released. It consisted of rearranged songs from previous albums, previously unreleased tracks and new songs. On the following tour they got assistance form the talented soprano Lore Binon, and they brought visuals made by London based illustrator David Foldvari, who had been working with the band since their first album.
